Marcus Hurn is a San Diego based artist
specializing in oil, watercolor, and drawing.
His works range from a loose impressionist
style to darker, more cerebral explorations
of the medium.

Largely self taught, Hurns' early efforts
focused on solving the technical problems
of the craft through concentrated study of
the impressionists; especially Boudin, Sisley,
and Pissarro. His efforts shifted toward
the Barbazon school (Corot, Rousseau), as
well as Dutch landscape artists, and
a stronger emphasis on composition.
These works became the foundation of
the artists first mature period.

Maintaining a controlled, often muted
palette, the artist developed an interest
in a less academic approach based on a quick,
almost accidental interpretation of the
subject matter (of which the works presented
are representative). Accidental art - art
that strays from tendency - has become the
focus of these projects as the artist seeks
a completed work novel to himself; something
difficult to accomplish.

While the artist considers oil his primary
medium, watercolor has become an important
outlet. Drawings serve both as studies and
finished stand-alone works.
